The next Speakeasy event will be held at The Drum on Monday 7th June at 6pm.
“Regional theatres are closing simply because they’ve cut the subsidies… If either political party kills the subsidised theatre they’ll kill the whole theatre.” Sir Peter Hall.
A discussion of the landscape for theatre practitioners in the West Midlands in terms of funding and opportunities, together with a preview of forthcoming work and a chance for local writers, actors, directors, producers and venue managers to network and announce their latest news.
Two interesting speakers are lined up: Alison Gagen (the Arts Council’s Relationship Manager for Theatre in the region) and Tyrone Huggins (Chair of the Sustained Theatre West Midlands Hub). The Agenda is to discuss what theatre makers locally can do given the recession and current constraints on funding.
Then there will be the usual opportunity for coffee, networking, announcements and the showcasing of new work. So, a useful event, and if you wish to propose a short performance or reading, please phone Jonathan Morley on 0121 333 2425 on Monday morning.
Hosted in partnership with the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
