Script was originally established as Stagecoach! in 1994 to support and develop new and emerging playwrights in the West Midlands. In 2004, it expanded to develop writers for film, radio and TV. Script was an Arts Council RFO for a number of years, but lost core funding during the cuts in 2007/8. The company closed in August 2010, but this blog continues to provide news and opportunities for writers in the West Midlands and beyond.
Mission Statement
Script is the regional development agency for dramatic writers in the West Midlands. It seeks to support, promote and facilitate the professional development of dramatic writers in the region and beyond. Our aims are to:
- increase engagement and participation in the field of new writing;
- improve the skills and employability of dramatic writers in the West Midlands;
- identify and nurture talent;
- develop creative partnerships with writers and producers;
- increase the mobility of writers across form, genre and media;
- provide an accessible forum for writers to raise issues and challenge perceptions;
- support the activities of the Playwrights’ Network and promote the role of the West Midlands.
